WE WERE ONCE TREES
This piece was inspired by a New York Times article about the rapid extinction of many species of trees. That information haunted me and I began collecting pieces of trees with the idea that there is a society that is preserving these pieces and images of them so that we can share with future generations what trees were like. You can open a jar and smell the scent of them, touch the moss that grew on them and handle their leaves. There is a door that hides a cache of acorns-perhaps to replant an oak forest? Each jar is a numbered specimen in the collection of the fictional society.
