This piece was inspired by a New York Times article about the rapid extinction of many species of trees. I began collecting pieces of trees imagining a society in the future whose purpose is to show future generations what trees were like—their smell, their texture, their seeds. Each jar is a numbered specimen in the collection of the fictional society.
